The Curragh is pleased to announce their continued partnership with Capital Stud to include sponsorship of the opening two year old race of the 2025 Irish Flat Racing Season, taking place on Sunday 16th March. The race has an impressive roll of honour with subsequent Breeders Cup runner up Arizona Blaze winning the 5 furlong contest last year and Group 1 winner Buccanero Fuerte landing the race in 2023.
In addition, the Stud will sponsor a maiden for three years and older fillies over 7 furlongs
Alkumait, a Group 2-winning son of Showcasing, will have his first runners on the track this year and the Stud is set to award €50,000 to the breeder and €25,000 to the trainer and owner of his first black type winner.
Castle Star enjoyed great success at The Curragh having won the GAIN Marble Hill Stakes and finishing runner up in the GAIN Railway Stakes and 4th in the Group 1 Keeneland Phoenix Stakes. The son of Starspangledbanner will have his first foals on the ground this year and already there have been very positive reports from breeders who bred mares to him last year.
Ger O’Neill of Capital Stud said
“We are delighted to sponsor both races as part of our ongoing commitment to the sport and the breeding industry and value our long standing partnership with The Curragh.”
Evan Arkwright Racing and Sponsorship Manager commented “Ger and his team have firmly established their association with our opening day of the season since they commenced their sponsorship in 2022. We are delighted to welcome them back for what promises to be an exciting programme to launch our 2025 at The Curragh.”
