Whistlejacket set for Group 1 Keeneland Phoenix Stakes
Whistlejacket is set to follow in the hoofprints of his full brother Little Big Bear when he lines up in the Keeneland Phoenix Stakes at The Curragh this Saturday, 10th August.
The Aidan O’Brien trained two year old is one of eleven entries which were confirmed this morning, with O’Brien also responsible for Camille Pissarro, Alfred Tennyson, Treasure Isle and Heavens Gate, as he attempts to win the Group 1 contest for an unprecedented eighteenth time.
The home trained challenge will also feature the Ger Lyons trained Babouche, winner of the Jebel Ali Racecourse and Stables Anglesey Stakes, while Adrian Murray who landed the race with Buccanero Fuerte last year, is set to be represented by Arizona Blaze and Queens Fury and Joseph O’Brien has entered recent course and distance winner Rudi’s Apple.
The strong British trained challenge features Francisco’s Place trained by Adrian Keatley and the Richard Fahey trained Shadow Army, runner up in the recent Prix Robert Papin in France.
Moss Tucker, winner of the Group 1 Flying Five Stakes last year, is one of seventeen entries in the FBD Hotels and Resorts Phoenix Sprint. Givemethebeatboys, Ana Syra, Big Gossey, Valiant Force and My Mate Alfie are other notable home trained contenders, while Shartash, Electric Storm, James’s Delight and King of Blue are set to travel over from British based trainers.
There are 24 entries in the opening Trainor Stone and Tile Irish EBF Maiden, 33 in the Revamp Conservation and Restoration Irish EBF Maiden, 20 in the ARC American Racing Channel Fillies Juvenile Race14 in the Holden Plant Rentals Handicap, 24 in the Sheehy Motors CUPRA Handicap and 23 in the La Celia Wines Handicap.
