Sunday 3rd November drew the curtain on another excellent year on the track, with many memorable moments including Classic winners Rosallion and Fallen Angel in the Tattersalls Irish 2000 and 1000 Guineas, Los Angeles in the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby, You Got to Me in the Juddmonte Irish Oaks and Kyprios in the Comer Group International Irish St. Leger. The Curragh also showcased numerous promising two-year-olds in 2024, including Group 1 winners Babouche, Scorthy Champ and Lake Victoria.
70 individual trainers had winners over the course of the season at The Curragh, up from 62 in 2023. There were 87 overseas raiders from France, Germany and the UK, resulting in 13 overseas winners, with 5 of those winning Group Ones at the Curragh in 2024.
Following a public vote for the 2024 Curragh Awards , Danny McLoughlin was awarded Leading Training Performance of the Year having saddled Bold Optimist to win Holden Plant Rentals Handicap on Saturday 10th August, while James Ryan received the Leading Riding Performance of the Year following his success on Courageous Strike in the Fitzpatrick’s Mercedes-Benz Apprentice Derby Handicap on Friday 28th June.
The Curragh supported a wide range of charitable and community events in 2024 with the objective of benefitting as many people as possible who live and work within the local and racing communities. The third running of the Pat Smullen Race Day in aid of Cancer Trials Ireland on 31st August raised €240,000 for Cancer Trials Ireland, the leading cancer research trials organisation in Ireland.
Multiple non-race day events took place at the track throughout the year, most notably, Relay for Life, which benefits the Irish Cancer Society and Ceol, Croí agus Bríd, part of Brigid 1500 celebrations, the evening celebrated the rich heritage of Ireland, while combining the art of dance and theatre with captivating performances from Celine Byrne, Riverdance and Kila.
